How to Become an Electrician Trainees (ET) Through IBEW 569

Becoming an Electrician Trainee with IBEW Local 569 is the first step toward entering the electrical industry and beginning a path toward apprenticeship.

Our process ensures new workers enter the field safely, legally, and with strong union support.

Four Step Process

Step 1: Sign the Entry-Level Books at the IBEW 569 Hall

Visit the IBEW Local 569 union hall in persson with your valid driver's license and social security card to sign Entry-Level Books.

These entry-level positions include:

  • Material Handler
  • Construction Wireman (CW)
  • Street Light Tech
  • Sound Tech

You do not need experience to sign the books — just a willingness to learn and work safely.

Step 2: Get Dispatched to an Entry-Level Job

Once you pick up a job, you will be dispatched to a signatory contractor.

This is the best way to get real jobsite exposure and begin learning the trade.

Step 3: Enroll in Electrician Training Classes at ETI

Once you are a member, you must enroll in state-approved training classes through the Electrical Training Institute.

ETI provides the hands-on and classroom training required for you to legally perform electrical work.

Our curriculum teaches safety, tools, basic electrical theory, jobsite conduct, and prepares you for future apprenticeship opportunities.

Step 4: Register With the State as an Electrician Trainee (ET)

California law requires you to register as an Electrician Trainee with the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS).To register, you must submit:

  • ET Registration Application
  • Proof of ETI enrollment
  • $25 fee to the state

Once registered, you are legally allowed to perform electrical work under the supervision of a State-Certified Electrician.
